Tooth Extractions

Patients might need a tooth extracted for several different reasons. You might have a problematic wisdom tooth, a baby tooth that won’t make room for the adult tooth, or a tooth that is causing decay or extreme pain. You will also feel relaxed here at White Center Smiles while we take care of your tooth extraction.

Does one of your children have a baby tooth that is causing ]problems with an adult tooth? When the baby teeth don’t fall out on their own, they can force the adult teeth to grow in sideways or cause an infection. It is important to bring your child in every six months for an exam and check-up so we can catch these issues before they become problematic.

Centuries ago, wisdom teeth used to fit in human mouths because of the wear and tear of a rough diet on our teeth. Now that our diets are not so harsh, wisdom teeth rarely fit anymore. If a wisdom tooth is decaying or causing you pain, come into our office to have it removed.

When Would I Need an Extraction?

Dr. Osundeko will always try to save teeth that have been broken, cracked, or otherwise damaged. But if too much trauma has damaged the tooth beyond repair, it will need to be removed. Fortunately, dental implants are a great option for our patients that need to have teeth pulled. For more information, see our dental implants page.

If you need an extraction, rest assured we will make you feel comfortable during your visit. We will numb the area where the tooth needs to come out, using other forms of sedation if necessary. After the treatment, Dr. Osundeko will give you a healing regimen to follow. Some of the things you may be asked to do are:

  • Avoid things that might delay the healing process, including rigorous sports.
  • No smoking while you mouth heals.
  • No straws; drink your liquids without them.
  • Follow a soft-foods diet until you are completely healed.
