Sedation Dentistry

Here at White Center Smiles, we’re committed to your comfort. We know that visiting the dentist can be stressful, especially when more than just an exam and cleaning are needed. Children might be especially anxious to visit the dentist, and we want all of our patients to have a more relaxed experience while in our office.

Laughing gas is one way we provide instant relaxation. The gas is colorless and odorless, and is given through a breathing mask that the patient wears over the mouth and nose. Laughing gas instantly relaxes you. It is preferred because it works quickly and wears off just as quickly. It is widely considered to be a safe method, and many patients can drive themselves home after an appointment.

Enteral sedation comes as a pill or in liquid form and is taken orally. This causes an intense relaxation while keeping the patient awake so they can communicate with the dentist throughout the procedure. Sometimes laughing gas is used along with enteral sedation to provide more relaxation, depending on the patient’s anxiety level. If you need this type of sedation, plan on having someone else drive you to and from your appointment.

IV sedation is a method where the sedative is injected directly into the vein. The patient may need time to recover in the office before leaving. Please get a ride to and from your appointment.

General anesthesia is used when the patient needs to be asleep for the entire procedure. The medication is injected directly into the vein, and gaseous sedation can be used as well. Because of the intensity of the sedation, please ask a friends or family member for a ride to and from our office.

We want you to be comfortable and relaxed. If you start to experience anxiety in our office, tell your dentist right away and we can help you decide which sedation methods will make your visit easier and more enjoyable. Dr. Osundeko wants you to feel welcome and safe at White Center Smiles, so call us today to schedule an appointment!
